St. Catharines is the largest city in the Niagara Region and the sixth largest in Ontario.  It is located 110 km south of Toronto (Across the lake) and 19 km north from the United States international border.  It is also the northern entrance to the Welland Canal.

Its official nickname is the garden City due to the 1000 acres of parks, garden and trails.

The main access routes into and out of St. Catharines are served by the QEW and 406 Highways.  St. Catharines Transit commission operates bus routes throughout St. Catharines and neighboring Thorold, with a bustling Bus Terminal in the downtown core, which services, Greyhound, Mega Bus etc.  Via Rail and Amtrak operate the train service to and from Toronto and New York City.

The city’s downtown core has undergone extensive improvements, with a new arena in the works for the city’s Junior A hockey team the Niagara Ice Dogs. 

St. Catharines is home to Brock University a modern comprehensive University located on the Niagara Escarpment bordering on the Thorold-St. Catharine’s towlines.  Ridley College is the city’s distinguished and oldest boarding school established 1889, located in the Western Hill area. 

St. Catharines also is the home of the District Niagara School Board and the Niagara Catholic District School board, which manages over 119 educational facilities on the public board and 61 school facilities on the Separate school board. 

There are 5 newspapers that service St. Catharines and area, The Standard, Niagara This Week, The Brock Press, The St. Catharines Shopping News, and Snap St. Catharines. Four radio stations service the surrounding area, AM 610, FM 97.7, FM 103.7 and FM 105.7

Port Dalhousie continues to hold its world renowned status a major Rowing venue in the world and will hold the Pan American games rowing venue in 2015

St. Catharines has over 90 km of accessible pathways for walking, jogging, hiking and cross country skiing. 

Rodman Hall is the home of diverse art exhibitions throughout the year as well as non-profit organizations such as the Niagara Artists Centre and the St. Catharines Area Arts Council.  Many festival are held during the year including  The Folk Arts Festival, Niagara Grape and Wine Festival , The Scene Music festival, and Ribfest to name a few.
